 Spindle motor control
A SHORT* Auto Start on power up
OPEN Controlled by START/STOP UNIT command

Set how to control the starting HDD spindle motor. This setting only
determines the operation mode when the power supply is turned on or
 the microcode is downloaded.

In both modes, stopping or restating the spindle motor can be
controlled by specifying the START/STOP UNIT command.

Setting terminals CN5-6 are used to set starting/stopping the HDD
self-diagnostics. The offline self-diagnostics can test the normality
of the HDD controller function and the basic read/write operation,
the setting terminals must be open.

  TM SHORT* Enable terminating resistor
      OPEN Disable terminating resistor

Setting terminal CN7 7-8 set whether to use the terminating resistor
circuit on the SCSI interface provided for the HDD. The setting
terminals enable the terminating resistor circuit to be connected on
the SCSI interface. Only the HDD of the single-ended type is
provided with the terminating resistor circuit.

7-8 SHORT* 16-bit SCSI mode setting
      OPEN 8-bit SCSI mode setting

Set setting terminal CN7 7-8 enable or disable the 16-bit SCSI mode.
When the 16-bit SCSI mode is enabled, all data bus (DB00 to DB15,
DBP0 to DBP1) can be effective. When the Differential type 16-bit
SCSI HDD is used as 8-bit SCSI device, this setting must be open.

   | |
   +-----------------+

The drive will operate in all axis (6 directions).

 Installation direction
 ----------------------
The drive may be installed in one of 6 orientations, that is on any
of its facets. Inclination from vertical should be less than 5*.

 Mounting screws
 ---------------
Either side or underside mounting may be used. Standard drive use M3
screws but some special models and US versions use 6/32 UNC. Screws
should not protrude from the drive frame by more than 3mm or damage
 may occur. Mounting Screws: M3 x 5mm#6/32 UNC, M3 x 5mm#6/32 UNC

 Frame clearance
 ---------------
There should be a gap of at least 2.5mm between the drive and the
system mounting frame on all sides to provide for adequate air flow.

 Grounding
 ---------
The M29xx series drives use Magneto-Resistive (MR) heads and
therefore require special handling considerations. Users must ensure
that the DE casing is NEVER shorted to the computer system's Frame or
 DC Ground.

FUJITSU M2909/M2903/M2915 JUMPER SETTING

 General
 -------
Fujitsu introduces a revolutionary technology for manufacturing
high-capacity, low profile, fast access disk drives. Fujitsu's latest
technology, the MR (Magneto-resistive) head technology, has made it
possible to store 3.1 gigabytes on the M2909 as well as 2.1 gigabytes
 on the M2903 and M2915.

 Advanced Technologies
 ---------------------
The adoption of the MR head, PR4ML (Partial Response class 4 Maximum
Likelihood) and 8,9 encoding/decoding enables the storage of much
more data than was previously possible. MR technology employs
separate read/write transducers, which allows MR drives to store
nearly 300 megabits per square inch. PR4ML increases drive
performance by allowing more data to be recorded on each track and
sustained reads at 6.8 megabytes per second for the M2903 and M2909,
and 8.7 megabytes per second for the M2915. 8,9 encoding/decoding
code results in improved signal strength. Together, these
technologies realise recording densities as high as 75,535 bpi for
the M2903 and M2909, and 71,627 bpi for the M2915. Track density is
also as high as 3,553 tpi, leading to large storage capacity, and
with advanced "On the fly ECC" error correction technology, makes the
M2903, M2909 and M2915 ideal for workstations, servers, disk arrays,
 minicomputers and mainframes.

 Rapid Rotational Speed
 ----------------------
The 3 gigabytes storage capacity model M2909 and the 2 gigabytes
storage capacity model M2903 and the 2 gigabytes storage capacity
model M2903 achieve a rapid rotational speed of 5,400 rpm and
provides a fast positioning time of 2.0 milliseconds track-to-track,
10.5 milliseconds average and 22 milliseconds maximum, including
 settling time.

As for 2 gigabytes storage capacity range, Fujitsu provides the
performance-focused model M2915 in addition to the M2903. The M2915
achieves a more rapid rotational speed of 7,200 rpm and provides a
fast positioning time of 2.0 milliseconds track-to-track, 9.8
milliseconds average and 21 milliseconds maximum, including settling
time. The M2915 is especially suitable for client server,
 video-on-demand and transaction-processing applications.

 Various Models with SCSI-2 I/F
 ------------------------------
The M2903, M2909 and M2915 provide both fast narrow SCSI-2 and fast
wide SCSI-2 interfaces. In each interface, single-ended or
differential can be selected. Furthermore, models with various types
of sector sizes can be chosen from, and a dual-port feature is
available dependant on the user's requirements.

factory format process, so the drive will appear defect free to the
user when first shipped. Any media defects that occur once the drive
is installed should be marked as such by the operating system.
Consult the system documentation for details of any defect management
 schemes available.
