Handling program/data of other models for the MZ-5500/5600
Handling of the MZ-3500 data and program with the MZ-5500

Q: Is it possible with the MZ-5500 series to read the disk which was created by the MZ-3500 CP/M-80 or other CP/M-86?
A: Yes. It would be possible to read the CP/M disk of such as the IBM PC besides the MZ-3500, but it sometimes becomes impossible to make direct use of program and data as it may defer in the hardware.
Q: Is it possible with the MZ-5500 series to read the MD-DOS disk of other model?
A: Basically, it is possible to read the 320KB MS-DOS of the IBM PC, but it may permits to make direct use of program and data. The same applies to GW-BASIC.
Q: Is it possible transfer the MZ-3500 BASIC program and data to the MZ-5500?
A: Yes. As FTRAN35 and CEDIT35 utilities are provided to the MZ-5500/5600 BASIC, execution of the utility permits to transfer the MZ-3500 BASIC created program and data. For detail, refer to the respective BASIC Manual.
Q: Is it possible with the MZ-5600 series to handle the disk created by the MZ-5500 series?
A: Go to the last answer of this page.

Handling of the MZ-5500, MZ-3500 data and program file with the MZ-5600

Q: Is it possible with the MZ-5600 to transfer the transient program or BASIC program and data created on the MZ-5500 CP/M-86?
A: As the DSKCNV utility is contained in the MZ-5600 CP/M-86 disk, use of that utility enables to read the MZ-5500 CP/M-86 created files and BASIC created program and data.
Q: Is it possible with the MZ-5600 series to read the disk created on CP/M-80 and CP/M-86 of other personal computer models?
A: As the DSKCNV utility is contained in the MZ-5600 CP/M-86 disk, use of that utility enables to read the disk created on other personal computer CP/M-80 and CP/M-86. The models from which data can be converted are the MZ-3500 and IBM PC.
Q: Is it possible to transfer the MZ-5500 MS-DOS created files and GW-BASIC program and data to the MZ-5600 series?
A: As the DSKCNV utility is contained in the MZ-5600 CP/M-86 disk, use of that utility enables to read the MZ-5500 MS-DOS and GW-BASIC disk which differs in its recording density. With the MZ-5641 which has two units of disk drives, it becomes possible without intervention of the DSKCNV utility. For detail, refer to section four, MS-DOS.
Q: Is it possible to transfer the MZ-3500 BASIC program and data to the MZ-5600?
A: It is possible it was recorded on the 5.25" disk. As the MZ-5600 CP/M-86 contains utilities such as FTRAN35 and CEDIT35, use of that program enables to transfer the MZ-3500 BASIC created program and data. However, it must be noted that there are some restrictions in transferring the MZ-3500 BASIC program and data, not enabling direct use after the transfer.
Q: Is it possible to handle the MZ-5600 series created disk on the MZ-5500?
A: Since the MZ-5600 differs in its disk format from that of the MZ-5500, it is not feasible to read the MZ-5600 developed file on the MZ-5500 itself. But it may be possible to configure the system described below, which permits shared use of the MZ-5500 and MZ-5600 disks.
  Ex. 1: MZ-5500 <== MZ-1E15 <== Drive No. E, F <== 640kb disk ==> MZ-5600
  Ex. 2: MZ-5500 <== MZ-1E11 <== Drive No. E, F, G, H (MZ-1F05) <== 8" disk ==> Drive No. E, F, G, H (MZ-1F05) ==> Disk IF MZ-1E11 ==> MZ-5600
