Installation instructions ------------------------- NOTES: - To determine if you should update the TrackPoint driver, refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. - Before installing this driver, you must uninstall the current program. - ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/(uninstall) wizard for this package. 1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract the driver to the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. 4. Double-click the System icon. 5. Click the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window. 6. Click the Device Manager button. 7. Double-click Mice and other pointing devices. 8. Double-click either IBM PS/2 TrackPoint or PS/2 Compatible Mouse whichever choice appears in the list. 9. Click the Driver tab. 10. Click the Update Driver button. The Update Device Driver Wizard runs. 11. Click Next. 12. Click Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver 13. Click Next. 14. Click Have Disk. 15. Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted, the default location is C:\DRIVERS\W2K\TPOINT Then click the OK button. Then driver list appears. 16. Click IBM PS/2 TrackPoint in the list. 17. Click Next. 18. Click Next. 19. If you see the warning panel which asks if you want to replace the keyborad port driver(s) or not, click Yes. 20. Click Finish in the Update Device Driver Wizard window. 21. Click Close in the IBM PS/2 TrackPoint Properties window. 22. Restart your computer to make the new settings effective. Uninstall instructions ---------------------- 1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. 4. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 5. Select IBM TrackPoint Support. 6. Click Change/Remove. 7. Restart the system. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- 1. Start Windows 2000. 2. Click Start, point to Search, and click For Files or Folders. 3. Click the Name & Location tab. 4. In the Named: field, type in tp4track.sys. 5. In the Look in: field, specify Local Hard drives (C:,D:). 6. Click the Find Now button. Windows will now search the hard disk drive for tp4track.sys. If the file is not found, then the TrackPoint driver is not installed on your system. 7. In the Found part of the window, select the tp4track.sys file located in C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS, or C:\WINNT40\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. 8. Scroll the window to the right and look at the Modified column.
